This week our multiple-time returing guest, and every schoolgirl's pride and joy, Morgan Jeske, joins us to discuss these films:
00:00:00 - 00:25:56 - Morgan watched Man of Steel (2013), directed by Zack Snyder, starring oh who the fuck cares. We spend a lot of time talking about previous Superman movies by Richard Donner and Richard Lester, how confused we are at Superman fans just being Superman fans, Mark Waid, Superman and work-for-hire, destruction in movies, scale in movies, the idiocy of making these characters active on a political scale, and superhero movies.
00:25:57 - 00:38:15 - Morgan watched Drive (2011), directed by Nicholas Wedning Refn, starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, and Ron Perlman. We also discuss car movies - especially The Driver, Taxi Driver, Bullit, and Vanishing Point which the movie takes from with both hands, expectations, moments of character revelation, and emptiness. Also what we love and hate about David Cronenberg's A History of Violence.
00:38:16 - 00:51:59 - HOMEWORK - I Am Legend (2007), directed by Francis Lawrence, starring Will Smith; and The Last Man on Earth (1964), directed by Ubaldo Ragona/Sidney Salkow, starring Vincent Price. Both films are adaptations of Richard Matheson's classic novel I Am Legend, we discuss Matheson's career and massive massive influence on the horror genre, and do impressions.
00:52:00 - 01:06:08 - Side Effects (2013), directed by Steven Soderbergh, starring Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jude Law, and Rooney Mara. We also discuss the latest chunk of Soderbergh's output, and what body of work means to us.
Outro music this week is from Ron Grainer's score for The Omega Man.

Yo,
Don't think so, but you can subscribe to the cast over on itunes, and if you so choose, leave a comment regarding how greatly your life has improved having listened to it : ) Especially the episodes that I'm not on, those will probably make it difficult for you to sire a child.
hugs,
M

Hey, great podcast. After reading about how bad "The Last Man on Earth" was for so many years, it was surprising to find out it actually was pretty good, bleakly atmospheric and generally faithful to the novella. Sean is correct that Vincent Price is horribly miscast and nearly sinks the movie. The role calls for an "everyman" type. Price's persona as an upper class fop is completely wrong. I think Warren Oats would have killed in that role.
Thanks for the extra long Ron Grainer outro!
