It's time for an all new episode of Comic Books Are Burning In Hell, with your pals Chris "Unchained Melodeez" Mautner, Joe "The Pugilist" McCulloch, Matt "Hand To God" Seneca and Tucker "Porky Pie" Stone talking about FRANCE.
The gang is all here, and so is the NYRC release of Social Fiction, a collection of comics by Chantal Montellier, translated by Geoffrey Brock. Is there a bit of spot the reference going down? Sure there is: but if your eyes are closed, how are you gonna see who is coming at you?? Wake up sheeple!!! France is a real place!!!!
Need more Chantal Action? Joe has you covered over at TCJ!
TCJ, you say? Helen Chazan also wrote about the book.
There's also reviews at Bookmunch (count the uses of "what we have here") Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal....that's all I found so far. Email me (there's a button the side of the site to do that) and I'll add 'em here. I used to love those posts that David Hudson would do rounding up the reviews a major/important movie had. Links to reviews in this little paragraph are just links, not endorsements, so feel free to not like reading them and letting me know how much you didn't like them.
You can, if you so choose, pick up a copy of Social Fiction via our Bookshop Affiliate link. Sales through that link would theoretically pay the hosting fee for the podcast, (they don't) but at the end of the day we're less concerned about making money and more pumped about people buying books from somewhere that isn't Amazon if they are buying them online.
My copy arrived to today. Thanks so much for reminding me of '1996: So Fast In Their Shiny Metal Cars'. That strip gave me my taste for blobby inks at an early age. Probably to blame for my affinity for Keith Giffen, though I shouldn't blame Chantal for that. Wonder how much of an influence Montellier was on Muñoz?
These comics are filled with cold-brew rage. Delectable.

Dear Tucker,
Yes, Leatherface's various masks are indeed cut-off human faces.
